New Zealand

New Zealand is an island adventure paradise with land and sea adventures to satisfy everyone’s taste for new experiences. Whether you are a thrill seeking adrenaline junkie looking for bungee jumping and white water kayaking or just looking to enjoy nature on a whale watching excursion, New Zealand is ready to deliver.

Our three-week plan for New Zealand was to fly into Auckland on the North Island and rent a car to drive to Queenstown on the South Island, staying at a mixture of Airbnb’s, hotels, and resorts along the way. After three weeks, we drove XXXX miles of New Zealand roads. Driving in New Zealand is very straightforward, except for the whole wrong side of the road thing - yes, they drive on the left side of the road, but the roads are generous, the traffic is light, and the other motorists are polite. We have found that whenever renting a vehicle in a foreign country, it pays to also rent the local GPS unit, using our phone GPS’s as a backup. Particularly in remote areas like much of New Zealand, the satellite GPS is much more reliable than the cellular network GPS.

Our itinerary looked like this:

Day 1: Arrive Auckland

Day 2:

Day 3:

Day 4:

Day 5:

Day 6:

Day 7:

Day 8:

Day 9:

Day 10:

Day 11:

Day 12:

Day 13:

Day 14:

Day 15: Leave Queenstown

When planning a trip to New Zealand, its pretty easy to break the trip into North Island or South Island itineraries. We would definitely recommend a minimum of one week for each but we honestly can’t recommend one over the other. We can however, share with you the highlights of our experiences.
